This course shall be presented by Pony Club Lead Assessors Jane Gilchrist and Alasdair Matheson and will count as Pony Club CPD for Coaches on the PC Coach Directory.
Morning D and D+ is an interactive workshop:
Who is this workshop for? This workshop is for people interested in Assessing D and D+ Tests. Before attending this workshop, you will have a have a clear idea of the level required and be coaching this level regularly. Anyone already assessing at this level or above is welcome to come along as a refresher.
What are the aims of the workshop? The workshop aims to clarify the skills needed to assess PC D and D+ Tests. The following topics will be covered:
- The Pony Club Test Structure
- Discussion on and clarification of what is expected for ‘D Test’ and ‘D+ Test’
- Riding and Care
- Preparation for the Test day
- Discussion on questioning technique
- Practical observation and questioning
• Delivering appropriate feedback
Attendees will receive written feedback to take from the workshop, with guidance on how to progress. Attendees will then be encouraged to shadow more experienced Assessors at Branch and Centre D and D+ Tests before assessing independently.
What do participants need to bring? Please bring the Test cards for E, D, D+ and C Efficiency Tests, a seat and complete the Pre-Course Work prior to attending the workshop. You can download these from the pony club portal using your coach number:

Afternoon C is an interactive workshop: | What do participants need to wear? Please dress appropriately to assess. Clean boots, tidy hair and remember that the demo riders will have made a big effort to be there and you will expect them to be well turned out and remember it is February. | Who is this workshop for? This workshop is the second step on the Pony Club Assessor Pathway for those who have completed the D/D+ Workshop and who are competent at assessing D/D+ Tests. It is also for anyone currently involved in |
assessing or training members for C Test. All new Assessors at this level must have completed this workshop before they can be accredited to assess. | What are the aims of the workshop? This practical workshop aims to clarify the skills and knowledge needed to assess at The Pony Club C Test and deliver a standard setting for both the riding and care elements of the certification. During the workshop we will: |
- Discuss the delivery of the Pony Club C Test
- Clarify what is expected for the C Test Riding and Care Certificates
- Explore questioning technique and assessing psychology
- Run practical sessions standardising what is expected for the C Test Care Certificate and how to approach assessing this award
- Have a simulated C Test Riding Certificate Assessment and clarify the standard required and explore questioning technique
What do delegates need to bring? Please bring a copy of the C Efficiency Test, clipboard, paper and stationery as you would to assess and complete the Pre-Course Work prior to attending the workshop. This is a practical training course with time spent in the classroom, stable yard and indoor arena.
