About this Event

The Musical Ride is a spectacle not to be missed – providing lots of fun & excitement for everyone involved!

In addition to the 2024 LIVE competition which is being held at The Pony Club Championships in August, we are again organising an alternative VIRTUAL competition.

In the unfortunate situation of the event having to cancel all entries will be refunded in full minus any booking fees

Additional Details

Teams of between 6 and 12 riders perform their own choreographed routine to music, wearing themed costumes or Branch/Centre sweatshirts.

Some of the previous themes we have seen include: Bake Off, Superheroes, Bugsy Malone, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Lancaster Bombers, Matadors, Grease, James Bond, and Thriller to name just a few!

Entries open Monday 2nd September and close Monday 4th November.

Competition Format

Teams of between 6 and 12 riders perform their own choreographed routine to music, wearing themed costumes or Branch/Centre sweatshirts.

Videos

  • The rides should be ridden specifically for this competition and filmed during the specified filming and video-upload period only.
  • Videos from another competition or outside the scheduled filming period will not be accepted.
  • You may repeat the ride as many times as you need and submit only the best video.
  • Film from C, the judge’s position.
  • If filming on a smartphone, hold the device in the landscape orientation.
Dress

Saddlery & Dress

  • Hats must be tagged, and correct footwear must be worn.
  • Any normal tack items and riding bits are permitted.
  • Costumes / fancy dress are optional.
  • Small, unobtrusive handheld props are permitted.
Entry Conditions

Entries

  • Entry fee – £75 per team.
  • Entries should be made online via the Horse Events form.
  • It is preferred that videos are submitted via a YouTube link.
Rules

Eligibility

  • Open to all Pony Club Members.
  • The team should contain between 6 and 12 riders.
  • The team can be from a Branch or Centre or a combination of both (mixed teams are permitted)
  • Lead rein riders are permitted – leaders must wear a correctly tagged hat.

Saddlery & Dress

  • Hats must be tagged, and correct footwear must be worn.
  • Any normal tack items and riding bits are permitted.
  • Costumes / fancy dress are optional.
  • Small, unobtrusive handheld props are permitted.

Arena

  • 20m x 60m or 20m x 40m to suit venue and ride
  • There should be no physical props inside the arena.
  • All riders must enter the arena at A.
  • Outside assistance eg voice, bell, whistle is not permitted.
  • Duration – the duration of the display within the arena should be no longer than 5 minutes (an additional 1 ½ minutes is allowed for entry and exit, music is permitted for this)

The object of the competition is to provide an entertaining spectacle for both competitors and spectators and will be marked as follows:

  • Content of Ride        60
  • Variety and change of pace
  • Choreography
  • Riding skills and team compatibility
  • Choice of Music       20#
  • Interpretation and entertainment value
  • Suitability of music to the paces shown
  • Overall Artistic Impression 20
  • The whole presentation, idea and display
  • In the event of a tie, the ride with the higher artistic marks shall take the higher placing.

Additional important notes

It is solely the responsibility of the Team Manager to ensure that all the videos submitted are correct. It is not the responsibility of the judges or the Office to check that videos work. If a technical difficulty is spotted during judging, it is the responsibility of the Team Manager to rectify it within two days of being notified in order not to delay the judging process.

It would be impossible for us to know if the videos submitted to us are the first time the member has ridden the test, or the 10th. Therefore, you can film the tests as often as required and submit the best take. Judges will only mark the videos provided. They will not search for the correct video on your behalf.

LEGAL LIABILITY: Save for death or personal injury caused by the negligence of the Organisers, or anyone for whom they are in law responsible, neither the Organisers of any event to which these rules apply, nor the Pony Club, nor any agent, employee or representative of these bodies, accepts any liability for any accident, loss, damage, injury or illness to horses, owners, riders, spectators, land, cars, their contents and accessories, or any other person or property whatsoever, whether caused by their negligence, breach of contract or in any other way whatsoever.

HEALTH, SAFETY & WELFARE: The Organisers of this Event have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the Organisers and all the Officials and Stewards.
