Tack – There will be an inspection of tack and turnout in the Collecting Ring, competitors are asked to allow themselves time before their class for this.
Hats and Body Protectors will be checked to ensure comply with Pony Club Rules (See conditions of entry)
Spurs – may not be worn by a Pony Club member at a Pony Club activity or event unless that member has passed either the Pony Club C+ Riding Test or the Pony Club Spurs Test.
About the competition: An encouraging and low-key event designed for genuine novice riders as an introduction to eventing. Competitors to be 14 years & under on 1January 2025.
Our aim is that all riders have a positive experience.
Rules will follow those set out in The Pony Club 2025 Eventing Rules with the following exceptions:
● Combinations can only compete in one class
● All competitors to present for each discipline at least 10 minutes before each section ● In lead rein sections, lead ropes must be attached to the NOSEBAND or via a COUPLING only
● Assisted means you can be in the ring with the competitor to provide VERBAL guidance and support.
● Numbers to be printed at home. Please bring your own with a bib.
Dressage phase:
● In lead rein sections the rider must be led with the leader at the shoulder of the pony
● Tests may be called in all classes, but “instructing” will be penalised by 2 marks in Classes 2 to 4.
Showjumping and cross country
● In lead rein sections the rider must be led with the leader at the shoulder of the pony. The leader must go over the jump at the same time as the pony, not in front.
● Riders in assisted sections of the competition may be verbally assisted by ONE person only.
● Riders in unassisted sections and Class 4 who receive outside assistance will be penalised by 10 penalties on each occasion.
● Fall of horse or rider, three refusals at the same fence or four refusals around the course will result in elimination.
Any rider eliminated from one phase of the competition may continue to compete in the next phase, provided the paramedics are satisfied (in the instance of a fall of rider).
● The Cross Country element will be within a roped off area in one field.
● The Cross Country section will not be timed but those deemed going too fast will be asked to slow down.
● The SJ and XC sections will be run under Arena Eventing Rules – see Section C of Eventing Rule Book 2025 (page 63)
Health & Safety – Organisers of this event have taken reasonable precautions to ensure the health and safety of everyone present. For these measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautions to avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the organisers and all the officials and stewards.
Legal Liability – Save for the death or personal injury caused by the negligence of the organisers, or anyone for whom they are in law responsible, neither the organisers of this event or The Pony Club nor any agent, employee or representative of these bodies, nor the landlord or his tenant, accepts any liability for any accident, loss, damage, injury or illness to horses, owners, riders, spectators, land, cars, their contents and accessories, or any other person or property whatsoever. Entries are only accepted on this basis.
All non Pony Club competitors are not covered by The Pony Club insurance and must have their own third party cover. The Fitzwilliam Branch of The Pony Club and the organisers of this event are not legally responsible for non Members and their insurance will not cover you.
Safety Rules – Failure to comply with safety rules will result in elimination
Photography- By entry to this competition competitors agree to being photographed by the Official Photographer
Hats of all competitors must conform to Pony Club regulations – details are in PC Eventing Rule book 2025 (pages 46-48) which can be downloaded at https://pcuk.org/officials/rulebooks/ – and must be tagged with the joint British Eventing, Riding Clubs and Pony Club PINK tag. Hats must be worn with chinstrap fastened at all times when mounted. Hat tagging at Secretary’s tent.
Body Protector – All competitors must wear a body protector that meets the BETA 2018 Level 3 standard (blue and black label) – details at page 49- https://pcuk.org/officials/rulebooks/
Whips – must comply to Pony Club regulations – details at page 51 https://pcuk.org/officials/rulebooks/
Spurs – may not be worn by a Pony Club member at a Pony Club activity or event unless that member has passed either the Pony Club C+ Riding Test or the Pony Club Spurs Test.
The Pony Club operates an annual flu vaccination ruling. All competitors should carry passport/vaccination certificates – spot checks may be made
The organisers reserve the right to alter, amend or cancel any class and reserve the right to disqualify anyone for the misuse of whip or spurs (Pony Club members must carry current permission from their DC), dangerous riding or any horse in poor or lame condition and to refuse any entry for any reason and at their sole discretion.
The Judges decisions are final.
No horse/pony may be ridden by more than one competitor in any one class.
No recording device is permitted (e.g HEAD or bridle camera)
