About this Event

A unique opportunity to ride across approximately 10 miles of the fabulous rolling countryside of Berkeley to include the Deer Park, woodlands and the bank of the River Severn. This is not a fun ride for those wanting lots of jumping, there is a small number of optional jumps.

Refund, Withdrawals & Entry Changes

No Refunds after the withdrawal date for whatever reason. Before this date full refunds to be given.

In the unfortunate situation of the event having to cancel all entries will be refunded per class minus an admin fee of £1.01 (Booking fees are non refundable)

Start and lorry park is Castle Meadows, Berkeley, GL13 9QH. The venue and lorry park will be signposted from A38. Avoid Berkeley High Street if over 3.5T as there is a weight restriction.

Entry information

Entries will be taken on the day provided the event is not sold out. Payment on the day must be cash or card.

Terms and Conditions

Registration

2.1 All Bookings in advance on Horse Events. Booking deems registration to the event and acceptance of all Terms & Conditions relating to the Event. Copies of T&Cs are available on request.

2.2 You have chosen your intended start time at the time of booking. In the interests of safety, please try to adhere to this start time. We will only allow exceptions to this in the event of traffic delays or other unforeseen circumstances. No riders will be permitted to start the course after the final closing time.

2.3 On arrival all riders must report to the starter (mounted) to:

– Check in.

– Take note of any safety information.

– Please note: For added safety we recommended downloading the App ‘what3words’ prior to arriving at the event.

2.4 If it is necessary to retire during the route please stop and contact our emergency number. A steward will advise on the safest return route to the parking area. Please do NOT turn around and ride against the flow of the route without requesting assistance.

2.5 On completion of the route or retirement, all riders must report to the steward at the finish to:

– Sign out of the course

– Collect a Rosette (optional)

2.6 Failure to sign out will require the event organisers to contact you after the event to ensure you have returned home safely and remind you of the requirement to sign out.

Rider & Horse

3.1 Riders must have appropriate and current Public Liability Insurance cover.

3.2 All riders must wear a hard hat to the current approved standard (correctly fastened) when mounted. All riders are strongly advised to wear appropriate body protection.

3.3 Riders must follow all directional route and safety signage. At all times riders must only follow the marked routes.

3.4 Riders must follow all instructions given to them at the start of the ride by the Registration Steward or the First Aider assigned to the Event, the Vet, or any other Steward.

3.5 All riders, at all times, must have full control of their horse and be appropriately skilled to ride and handle horses safely in a sensible manner. Horses must not be left unattended tied to horseboxes or trailers.

3.6 Riders should carry a mobile phone and must take a photo of the Events emergency page prior to starting the route.

3.7 The minimum age for horses and ponies is 4 years.

3.8 Walkers are only permitted on course if directly leading a horse/pony on a lead rein. Additional walkers are not permitted for safety reasons.

3.9 Dogs are not permitted on the course and we strongly advise that they should not be left unattended in horseboxes/vehicles. There is no shade available in the parking area. We reserve the right to force entry into a vehicle if we believe that an animal is in distress.

3.10 Overtaking is permitted. Please calmly alert those ahead of you of your intention. Please await an affirmative response before proceeding.

Safety of Children

4.1 An adult must sign for any rider under 18 years of age and remains completely responsible for their safety and actions, at all times.

4.2 The minimum age for riders is 4 years of age.

4.3 Children aged 14-17 may complete the route on their own, provided an adult signs for the rider at the beginning and end of the course. The adult must remain in the lorry park and in case of an emergency be contactable at all times.

4.4 Children 13 years of age or below must be escorted by an adult aged 18 years or over on a horse or lead on foot. If the escorting adult is unable to attend or complete the route, the children must also retire at this point.

4.5 Children must adhere to all terms and conditions as stipulated.

4.6 In addition to our requirement for all riders to wear a hard hat, children under the age of 18 must also, at all times, wear appropriate body protection whilst mounted.

Cross Country Jumps

5.1 A selection of optional jumps will be made available for use around the route. Please adhere to the conditions below if considering use of the available optional jumps.

5.2 Fences that must be jumped in one direction only will be flagged. When jumping this obstacle the Red Flag must be on your right & the White Flag must be on your left.

5.3 You must be suitably skilled to jump fixed fences and only tackle those within your and your horse’s capability.

5.4 Consideration must be given to other horses and riders, at all times.

5.5 Only one horse at a time to jump a fence. Horses/Ponies are NOT to jump abreast of each other.

5.6 You must only jump the fences that are located on the marked route.

5.7 All jumps are optional.

5.8 No more than TWO attempts are permitted at each jump.

5.9 Any problems, injuries or damage to you or your horse/pony during your use of the route, must be reported immediately to the organisers and before you leave the venue. An emergency telephone number is provided for this purpose.

Emergency Procedure

6.1 All riders are required to check in and out of the event.

6.2 A First Aider will be on site to administer first aid treatment to the best of their ability prior to the arrival of the ambulance service or air ambulance, if required.

6.3 A vet will be on call to attend incidents if required. All veterinary costs will be the liability of the rider or owner of the horse.

6.4 An emergency contact number will be provided at the time of sign in. It is recommended each rider download the App ‘what3words’ prior to arrival so their location can be found at any point on the course.

6.5 If there is an ‘incident’ please phone the emergency numbers on the page you photographed at the start or displayed at various points on the route. If there is no response please send a text message to the number and you will receive a call back.

6.6 We do not stipulate the use of medical arm bands, however, we would advise that arm bands are worn if a rider has specific medical details that the emergency services need to be aware of in the event of an accident. This should include any emergency contact details.

Conditions of Acceptance

7.1 You agree to indemnify The Berkeley  Hunt and keep The Berkeley Hunt indemnified against all liabilities, costs, expenses, damages and losses suffered or incurred by The Berkeley Hunt arising from or in connection with any breach of these terms by you.

7.2 These rules are in the interest of your own safety.

7.3 By registering on your arrival at the event you are agreeing to abide by these rules.

7.4 Subject to these terms, you also accept full liability for the actions and safety of any persons who accompany you.

Photography

8.1 By participating in the Event you give The Berkeley Hunt full permission to use any photos taken for promotional purposes. This may include e-newsletters, online and print advertising, circulation to the media and any other media we may choose to use in the future.

8.2 If you would like your images to be removed from our library, please email Berkeleyhunt2020@outlook.com with a full description of your outfit, horse and date of the Event attended.

9. COVID-19 9.1 The Berkely Hunt will follow current Government Guidance and take the necessary precautions at the time of the Event. All those attending must minimise the risk to themselves or others by complying with the Government Guidelines at the time of the Event. The Berkeley Hunt will have the right to refuse entry or request departure from the Event of any attendee in breach of the current COVID-19 protocol.
